A Musical Journey… into the weird world of U2/Edge-related guitar effects

Edge Effects Settings Lookup

The Early Years: 1977 to 1983

The Classic Era: 1984 to 1990

The Awesome 1990′s

2000′s U2

This is a new section of the site I’m working on, which is very much inspired by the website gilmourish.com (which I am a big fan of).

I’ll be adding settings, tips, and other suggestions that I think will be helpful in trying to duplicate Edge’s tones with your own setup.

You’ll be able to click on the album thumbnails and this will take you to a page listing songs and suggested effects settings.

(Yes, I am biased in favor or 1990′s U2… ;) That should be obvious. )

Great initiative, Dave. Have you decided if you’ll focus on studio versions, or will you include live versions as well? So many songs change key, tempo, fx usage and so on, as you know – therefore it would be great if these differences would be easily found if you’re searching of a particular version of a song.

John, I’ll include info on both where possible. I’ll give the tempo/bpm along with delays times which will allow people to adjust for different tempos. Of course some of the studio tracks are so buried in overdubs that it’s almost impossible to unravel them, so live versions are very useful in nailing things down.

  4. Cool! I’d love to know more about your “unraveling” process as well. I’m always impressed with some people’s ability to figure out what Edge does effects, wise.

  5. Fantastic idea Dave; this site is something I have dreamt of. Edge was the reason I picked up a guitar in the first place, so getting info on his style will help me take things from it and try to develop my own take on it. This is gonna be the premier site for “Edge”Devotees. Having spent tons of money tracking down the gear, and building my own little mini edge “rack” having someone with a “scientific” mind like yours to help me figure all this “Gubbins” out is a godsend. Cheers Dave you’re one in a million.
